ABOUT MEXICALI; 

Cerveceria Mexicali, S. A. de C.V., was founded in 1923 by Mr Miguel Gonzalez and Mr Heraclio Ochoa.  Shortly after a German beer maker and chemist was employed to develop a brew which would make Mexicali famous. 

A formula for Cerveza Mexicali was created, basing its production on the highest levels of quality control.  The experience of the brewers allowed its products to be distinguished by their flavour and precise alcohol concentration

The Mexicali plant was the first industrial brewery in Baja California.  Production grew from 7000 barrels in its first year to over 72,000 in 1960. During that time Cerveza Mexicali was the largest selling beer brand in ALL of Baja California.

Sadly after the death of founder Don Miguel the factory was closed and Mexicali faded from the market place.  Until in 2000 when the brand was revived and production recommenced.  The beer is the original formula that beat out Corona and Pacifico as "The" Great Mexican beer. 

THE BEER;

This brew is bright, deep golden yellow in colour. The aroma is of sweet malt, lightly floral and hoppy. The flavour reflects its hop bitterness, slightly sweet and just a perfect balance of two row barley malt.

Some Mexican brands are now being brewed under licence and have lost a bit of their Latin American heritage. Mexicali offers an authentic alternative that is highly drinkable and distinctive - (Wine & Spirit Magazine).

Mainstream beers from Mexico certainly don't ring our bells...Mexicali is a pretty bloody drinkable beer....you could proudly wave it around in a Mexican restaurant or backyard BBQ without proving your tastebuds are situated in your rectum - (John Kruger, Wine Business Magazine)
